Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Stumbletown ("we," "our," or "us") is a location-based social app that lets users leave posts pinned to real-world GPS coordinates. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you register, we collect your email address and a username you choose.
Location data. Stumbletown requires access to your device's GPS location while you use the app. Location data is used to show you posts within 25 meters of your current position and to geotag your own posts. We do not store a history of your movements — only the GPS coordinates of posts at the moment they are created.
Posts and content. Any text, photos, or other content you post is stored in our database and associated with your account. Posts are visible to other users who are physically within 25 meters of the post's location.
Profile information. You may optionally provide a profile photo and a short bio. This information is visible to other users of the app.
Usage data. We collect basic usage information such as votes, replies, and hunt participation to operate the app's features.
Reports. If you report a post, reply, or user, we store the report along with the reason you selected so we can review it.
2. How We Use Your Information
To operate and provide the Stumbletown service
To display location-relevant content to nearby users
To enable scavenger hunt features that require GPS proximity verification
To allow other users to view your profile and public posts
To review reports of content that may violate our community guidelines
To respond to support requests
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.
3. Location Data
Stumbletown accesses your location only while the app is in use (foreground access). We do not track your location in the background. Location coordinates are embedded in posts you create and are visible to other users who are nearby. We do not share raw location data with third parties.
4. Photos and Camera
If you choose to attach a photo to a post or set a profile picture, that image is stored in our database. Camera and photo library access is only used when you explicitly initiate it within the app. Photos attached to posts are visible to nearby users. Profile photos are visible to all users.
5. Third-Party Services
Firebase (Google). We use Google Firebase for user authentication and database storage. Firebase's privacy policy is available at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
OpenWeatherMap. If you enable the weather integration in your settings, we send your current GPS coordinates to OpenWeatherMap's API to retrieve local weather conditions. This is opt-in and can be disabled at any time in Profile → Post Integrations. OpenWeatherMap's privacy policy is available at openweathermap.org/privacy-policy.
6. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account through the app (Profile → Delete Account), we permanently delete your account information, profile, and all posts you have created. Some residual data (such as submitted reports) may be retained for a short period for safety and moderation purposes before being deleted.
7. Children's Privacy
Stumbletown is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights
You may:
Update or correct your profile information at any time within the app
Delete individual posts you have created
Delete your entire account and all associated data via Profile → Delete Account
Disable optional data sharing (weather integration) via Profile → Post Integrations
Block other users whose content you do not wish to see
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA respectively. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email below.
9. Security
We use Firebase's security infrastructure to protect your data. Access to Firestore is controlled by security rules that restrict read and write access to authenticated users. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
